About the soap-maker

Welcome to Kalleo Handmade Soaps !

Kalleo Enterprise is Malaysian family owned and operated as a home-based cottage business by Christine Yap-Chu.
Christine is formerly a Singapore state registered nurse before running her family IT business until 2004. Being a home-maker now, she has stretched her time doing things that she missed doing in the past. She spends half of her time in her farm namely Kebun Kalleo; she grows medicinal herbs and edible plants. She rears chickens too for their waste to fertilize her pesticide-free farm.

She started making handmade soaps in 2009. Jane, her sister a medical doctor prompted her to make soaps. She recalled Jane saying “handmade soaps are safe, gentle especially to those with problematic skin-condition”. There was no turning back ever since. What began as give-aways and love gifts to relatives and friends have turned into an enterprise. She started selling her soaps a year later upon positive and encouraging response from her customers.

In this site you will read about Christine’s passion for making handmade soaps.
Soap making is a combination of art and science. No secret. Do you recall the science experiment you did in the laboratory? Acid + alkali = neutral? This is science. The main part of her art works lies in formulating recipes, blending the natural colors, scenting, moulding, cutting and packaging the bar soaps.

She confidently claims that every piece of Kalleo handmade soap:
” is handmade, manually cut and hand packed using food grade biodegradable clear wrap
to avoid excessive packaging
” is free from artificial colorings, fragrance, preservatives and irritants to ensure optimum
benefit to all handmade soap users
” contains naturally occurring glycerin which moisturizes skin

She takes this column to express her sincere gratitude to 2 people:
1. Inn, her beloved husband who has wholly supported her in setting up Kalleo Enterprise. He is also the master gardener and care-taker of their garden.
2. Jane, her sister who has contributed significantly in the formulation of her milk-based and herbal handmade soaps. From her work experience in the dermatology clinics, she affirms that our skin requires deliberate and gentle care.

Christine started her small scale soap-making classes in 2011, many persistent request from Customers has motivated her to give it a try. She finds much joy in teaching soap-making surprisingly 🙂 🙂 She gives credit to her soap Students for being so enthusiastic and encouraging!

She conducts Bar soap-making and Liquid soap-making classes at regular interval nowadays. Find out more detail about her soap-making classes and schedule at https://kalleosoaps.com/cold-process-soap-class/

I am the UM Biology student @ EFF volunteer hehe) Well, ur enthusiasm in soap-making had impressed me and evoked my interest in this related field….your soap-making process in your lab (home) sounds similar to my final year project in UM lab..but i believe yours are more meaningful, useful and natural..^^..How wish am I to buy all the soaps and try them out, but sadly i have to take care of my pocket too..dun worry, i am going to support your talk&demonstration on soap-making on Sunday!! ^^ may God give you the strength, wisdom and creativity in your work and dream …:p
